Winter hits
Kuhmo hard, but it sure is beautiful. The town, which lies in an
area that borders Russia, was under
Swedish and
Russian rule in centuries past, but is now proudly Finnish. The
boreal forests in this region
are home to
wolves and bears as well as the rare, and rarely seen, Finnish
forest
reindeer,
who forage
among
the trees.

Kuhmo is a town and a municipality in Finland and islocated at the southeastern corner of the
Kainuuregion. The municipality has a population of ,563 and covers an area of 4,806.31
square kilometres of
which
649.97 km² is water. The population density is1.78 inhabitants per square
kilometre.It has aborderline
of 120 kilometres with Russia. Neighbourtowns are Hyrynsalmi, Lieksa,
Nurmes, Ristijärvi, Sotkamo and Suomussalmi.Neighbour city across the Russian border
isKostomuksha. Vartius, one of the border crossing points between Finlandand Russia,
is located in northern Kuhmo. |
